How many types of BCS cadre are there?

Many candidates wishing to take part in the BCS exam wonder how many Bangladesh Civil Service cadres there are, or how many BCS cadres exist. BCS cadres are generally of three types:

• General Cadre
• Education Cadre
• Technical Cadre or Professional Cadre

Below is a brief discussion of these three types of cadre:

General Cadre:

Everyone can apply for the General Cadre. That means no matter what subject you did your Honors in, you can apply for the General Cadre. Everyone who has passed Honors BCS can apply for the General Cadre. The BCS General Cadres are as follows:

1. Foreign Affairs
2. Administration/ Police
3. Audit/ Customs/ Tax
4. Information and Ansar
5. Railway and Food
6. Co-operative and Family

Education Cadre:

By studying a specific subject, you can join the teaching profession in that subject through the Education Cadre. For example, suppose you completed your Honors in Physics from any recognized university/college — now you can take the BCS exam and become a teacher at a government institution through the Education Cadre.

If you want, you can also apply for the General Cadre alongside the Education Cadre.

Technical or Professional Cadre:

Those who have studied a specific field, such as doctors, engineers, etc., can apply for the Professional Cadre. In this case too, one can apply for the General Cadre alongside the Professional Cadre.
